Vocation Meditation -
Trinity Sunday 2010

"Jesus said to his disciples, "I still have many things to say to you but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes he will guide you into the truth. ….All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you."
(Jn 16:12-15)

If I am willing to admit it, I am just like any of the disciples, I can only take in important truth slowly. Jesus had already prepared them for their mission, but they still had much they could only learn from the Spirit, to enable them to give their lives totally in witness to Christ in the world.

As a Church we celebrate this weekend the revelation of God's divine nature in the profound mystery of the Trinity, the communion of three divine persons, one God. Such a mystery can only be contemplated slowly. We will discover in so doing that we through our baptism in Jesus Christ share in that divine life. What does this mean for me trying to find my way in life? The Spirit challenges each of us who is discerning our path in life to gently to open up a little more, then a little more to know and see ourself more clearly, confidently, and to listen to God's guidance as we journey. Do we realize how much God is totally invested in us, our happiness and our future?

My prayer:
"Father you sent your Word to bring us truth and your Spirit to make us holy. Through them we come to know the mystery of your life. Help us to worship you, one God in three Persons, by proclaiming and living our faith in you." Amen.

(from today's opening prayer, Trinity Sunday)
