Archdiocese of Vancouver

About Us

The Gospel of Jesus Christ was first proclaimed in our area over one hundred and fifty years ago. Established as a Vicariate Apostolic in 1863, we became the Archdiocese of Vancouver in 1908. The zeal and sacrifice that characterized the early missionaries - and we think especially of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the Sisters of St. Ann and the Sisters of Providence - still motivate those who proclaim the Word of God in the Archdiocese of Vancouver today. The present situation of the teaching ministry in the Archdiocese of Vancouver is marked by blessings and by challenges. - Archdiocesan Synod Notes.

Vocational Focus

"To create a 'Vocation Culture' in North America requires that we be willing to enter into a new dialogue with young Catholics."
— Pastoral Plan for Vocations, CCCB - Vocations site
