Mission
"The love of Christ
gathers us together
to live in communion with all.
As a community of women
we are sent to serve
those in need
in simplicity and compassion."
Charism
We are an apostolic order of Sisters who respond to unmet needs in our world. We hold a vision of all people united in one community of love, a goal we strive for through prayer and our ministries. Our aim is to help those who are struggling in today's world, especially the poor, by walking with them.
Ministries
We engage in a variety of ministries
A. Fontbonne Ministries is a non-profit, charitable organization of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto which responds practically to social needs by nurturing community with our neighbour, especially the homeless, alienated, economically poor and women at risk, through the following ministries:
- Fontbonne Place
Fontbonne Place provides affordable, rent-geared-to-income housing for older, single women. - Mustard Seed
This outreach centre in South Riverdale offers an accepting environment and sacred space for participants and volunteers. - In Good Company
This friendly visiting program responds to individuals seeking emotional, spiritual and social support. - Studio on the Hill
Located in East York, this ministry offers all age groups the opportunity to work creatively with clay in a relaxing and friendly studio. - Village Mosaic
Our latest ministry offers a welcoming space in south Etobicoke for participants to come together for hospitality and community building. - Faith Connections
Faith Connections invites young adults (18-39) to engage in opportunities that generate spiritual growth and community building.
B. Outreach ministries: we carry on outreach programs in Canada and in other countries, see Work in developing countries
C. Ministry with L'Arche: Primarily L'Arche is about creating home together with people with disabilities. It is based on the premise that every person brings a gift and every person is vulnerable.
D. Other ministries are pastoral and spiritual:
Parish work - assistance with all manner of parish programs
Spiritual care in a health setting
Children Helping Children - Holy Childhood or "Children Helping Children" is a branch of the Pontifical Mission Society that encourages elementary school children to learn about, pray for and share with children in developing countries.
Justice, Peace, Integrity of Creation - a ministry centered on justice, peace and ecology.
Lay Ministry - support for adult learning to enable parish assistance.
Prayer - ongoing prayer for different intentions.
Spiritual Direction - spiritual guidance in different settings.
Higher Education - courses at the university level.
