Good Shepherd Sisters

Mission
The Sisters of the Good Shepherd is an international apostolic congregation of women in 68 countries. Located in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, as well as in the North, Central and South Americas, we are called to a mission of reconciliation. We express our mission of merciful love through a contemplative life or an apostolic life. The Contemplative Sisters live an enclosed life style and pray for reconciliation in the world, they pray especially for the Apostolic Sisters and those who are in their ministries.
The Church entrusts to us, a share in her mission of reconciliation. This is expressed by being the presence of Jesus the Good Shepherd for the downtrodden, bringing them His compassion and mercy, so they may discover their own worth and dignity as persons. Our specific orientation is to women and children, whose condition in life cries out for the healing and salvation which Jesus alone can bring. We are deeply committed to their human and spiritual healing and to their development as persons created in God's image. Since the well-being of the person is intimately linked to that of the family, we try to serve them in the context of the family and society in which they live.
Spirituality
We are committed to reconciliation in the context of justice and peace, in a world disturbed by sin and conflict. Being "Life-Bearers For and With the Poor of the World" is the theme from our recent international meeting.
The Sisters respond to these needs: by advocating for the poor, being chaplains in hospitals, prisons, and schools; in community development, education, parish and youth work; child and youth care, work in group homes and social work, as well as other ministries. Whatever talents God has given to women, they are valuable within our congregation.
